The evaluation of agricultural land plays a crucial role in supporting sustainable land management. The monograph titled „Soil Evaluation for the 21st Century“ summarizes key advancements in the Estimated pedologic-ecological unit (EPEU) system, reflecting over two decades of intensive research and expert effort. Innovations include the update of climatic regionalization, driven primarily by ongoing climate change, which has caused significant shifts in temperature and precipitation patterns. The system has also been expanded with new soil classifications, including slope soils and anthropogenic soils, to capture their properties and productive potential more precisely. The implementation of economic adjustments, including the development of shadow price estimates for the non-productive functions of land, has ensured that the system is better aligned with societal and legislative needs. Future challenges include the integration of climatic and soil classifications, as well as the refinement of the economic valuation of all combinations of EPEU. By addressing these needs, the system contributes to sustainable land management, emphasizing productive and non-productive values of agricultural land essential for long-term ecological stability.
