The article focuses on aspects of regional collective memory represented by the remains of boundary stones between the historical Moravian Margraviate and the Kingdom of Bohemia. The boundary stones generally follow the watershed between the North Sea and the Black Sea, so the course of the border has been stable for centuries. As a result, there are still about 1,200 original boundary stones in the Czech Republic, along a length of 420 kilometres. Some of them qualify for protection as national cultural monuments. This article examines the issue of boundary stones, which can also be understood as a manifestation of deeper archetypes of regional identity. This field can be explored as a philosophy of geography. The author shows the functions that boundary stones still fulfil in the landscape and in society. They have created a collective regional memory. In the analytical part of the article, the author shows what concrete steps need to be taken in order to have the most important border stones declared a national cultural monument of the Czech Republic and to help keep alive the still existing historical collective memory of the differences between Moravia and Bohemia.
