In the times when fruit growing is limited by climate changes, and when production areas of many fruit species are therefore decreasing in different parts of the world and with varying intensity, the search for new options is needed. Because of the instability in the profitability of production and the costs associated with fruit growing, it is important to find new species and varieties for a sustainable and competitive fruit industry. One way of achieving this is, for example, by using new ‚non- traditional‘ fruit species, such as species at the crossroads between commercial and ornamental plants, such as the service tree (Sorbus domestica L.). Many non-traditional fruit species offer advantages that make them suitable for the conditions and, in particular, the changing climate in the Czech Republic, while at the same time achieving appropriate fruit quality or yields, etc. In this methodology, we consider the possibilities of characterizing the traits and creating descriptions of service trees growing in collections of NP or wild trees in the landscape and fruit plantations located in the Czech Republic.
