The present publication documents, on the basis of data from the forest management plan of the University Forest Enterprise “Masarykův les” Křtiny (Czech Republic), the transition from the traditional forest management method based on age‐class stands to the statistical method employing permanent inventory plots, as codified in the amendments to Decree No. 84/1996 Coll. The introduction delineates the importance of forest management planning (FMP) in the context of climate change. It describes the historical development of the standardization of FMP outputs in the Czech Republic. The new inventory‐plot method enables tracking the dynamics of changes in the forest, imposes limits on statistical errors, and shifts the evaluation unit from age‐class stands to management groups. Using the example of ŠLP Křtiny, the combined application of both approaches is demonstrated, and an evaluation unit is proposed to ! integrate them. The publication offers a methodology for comparing and synthesizing the outputs of both approaches and may serve as a model for future forest management plans that combine traditional and modern methods.
