The objective of the workshop is to foster synergistic integration of knowledge across disciplines, to advance interdisciplinary collaboration in karst exploration and research, and to support joint applications for new research projects as well as the subsequent transfer of findings into applied practice. The workshop is open to contributions from all relevant scientific fields. By the nature of the subject, geology and hydrogeology constitute the foundational disciplines. Of equal importance, however, are karstology, speleology, pedology, archaeology, climatology, and botany. Long-term challenges requiring sustained inquiry including the protection of groundwater resources, the extraction of mineral commodities, and agricultural practices on the karst surface. Equally essential to a modern and comprehensive approach to the management of this territory are considerations of tourism development, landscape urbanisation, and sporting and cultural activities. The workshop featured presentations by authors who welcome substantive and open discussion, aimed at advancing and resolving the questions raised.
