Chov koz

Učební text

Jan Kuchtík (a kol.)

Goats are currently the fourth-most commonly kept farm animals in the world (excluding poultry), and their numbers have increased significantly in recent years. This trend is likely to continue. In contrast, in the Czech Republic, goat farming is a minority activity, but in recent years, consumer interest in goat milk products, particularly, has been growing significantly. This could lead to an increase in this type of production, or in the number of goats and goat farms. At the same time, it should be noted that goat farming has a relatively favourable economic profile and a significant presence in organic farming. The fundamental importance of goat farming, both in the European and domestic contexts, also lies in maintaining permanent grasslands, especially in less-favoured areas (LFAs). The aim of this script is to provide students with information (the importance of breeding, goat breeds, reproduction, milk production, meat production, etc.) related to goat farming. At the same time, this script could also be a useful aid for those who want to start this type of farming.

Keywords: goat farming, reproduction, milk production, meat production, nutrition, breeding, health issues, organic farming
