The article summarizes current knowledge regarding American Foulbrood and European Foulbrood in the context of the amendment to Decree No. 144/2023 Coll., which redefines the legislative framework for the control of these infections. Although complete eradication of the causative agents cannot be expected in the foreseeable future, the new regulation harmonizes veterinary procedures for both diseases. The shift away from the blanket destruction of entire apiaries towards the selective culling of positive colonies brings significant economic and ethical benefits to beekeepers. A comparison with foreign strategies suggests that this approach does not increase the risk of worsening the epizootiological situation and contributes to greater transparency in the legislative environment.
