REDEFINING CONCEPTS: GLOBALIZATION (AND REGIONALIZATION) / ZNOVUVYMEZENÍ POJMŮ: GLOBALIZACE (A REGIONALIZACE)
Oldřich Bubák, Josef Kasal
DOI: 10.11118/978-80-7701-030-6-0009
Globalization, a complex phenomenon, has been defined largely in a superficial manner. Generally, this is a result of the broader, ingrained ways of narrow thinking based on traditional disciplinary views. In light of new approaches, which embrace complexity and recognize we must look at the issues in a systemic way, we seek to redefine key concepts of today, including that of globalization and the related idea of regionalization. This paper provides a perspective on one such redefinition which provides a pre modern and modern era conceptualization and unifies both globalization and regionalization phenomena.

Lukáš Cíbik
DOI: 10.11118/978-80-7701-030-6-0014
This article analyzes the impact of the pandemic on four key macroeconomic indicators – real GDP growth rate, unemployment rate, Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices (HICP), and the current account balance – in 27 EU countries. Using quantitative methods and regression analysis, the study identifies significant geographical disparities and examines the factors that contributed to the varied economic impacts of the pandemic across different countries. The results show that countries with diversified economies and effective governance demonstrated greater resilience, while countries dependent on sectors such as tourism experienced substantial economic declines.
BLÍZKÝ VÝCHOD Z POHLEDU GEOPOLITIKY / NEAR EAST FROM A GEOPOLITICAL PERSPECTIVE
Štefan Danics
DOI: 10.11118/978-80-7701-030-6-0023
Near East is a contested term that stems from 19th century Western views. In the text it will refer to countries: Bahrain, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, the Palestinian Authority and Gaza Strip, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Syria, Turkey and Yemen. All these countries have a particular history, but over the past century they have been united by the common experience of British and French colonialism, post-colonial development, American hegemony and, more recently, the orientation of some countries towards Russia and China. The region is currently engulfed by the escalation of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Iran is heavily involved in the conflict and is leading the anti-Israeli axis of resistance, which is expanding the conflict territorially and could escalate into a regional war.

This article aims to explore why substance use disorder (SUD) rates remain high despite governmental efforts, comparing the situation in the Czech Republic and Brazil and showing how the failure of prohibitionist strategies indicates the insufficiency of punitive measures by itself. Systematic literature review of the Brazilian and Czech data provided by institutional researchers concerning substance use from the last 5 years and the analysis of government policies exercised to combat it. 2070 journal articles were found at Web of Science in total. Brazil´s high incarceration rates, particularly for substance-related offenses, shows the consequences of its emphasis on criminalization. In contrast, the Czech Republic, while failing to achieve ideal rates, has managed the situation differently through more health-centered programs and legislation. The failure of prohibitionist and punitive approaches to effectively address SUDs is evident. In both countries this procedure reflects negative consequences by not only not achieving success in diminishing substance use rates, but also creating larger problems such as high incarceration and substance-related offenses rates.
PERCEPTION OF TECHNOLOGICAL INNOVATIONS AND THEIR IMPACT ON JOB INSECURITY OF NURSING STAFF IN SOCIAL SERVICE INSTITUTIONS / PERCEPCIA TECHNOLOGICKÝCH INOVÁCIÍ A ICH DOPAD NA PRACOVNÚ NEISTOTU OPATROVATEĽSKÉHO PERSONÁLU V ZARIADENIACH SOCIÁLNYCH SLUŽIEB

DOI: 10.11118/978-80-7701-030-6-0039
In the context of increasing digitisation and the implementation of modern technologies in care, concerns are being raised about the possible loss of jobs and changes in working conditions. The aim of the present paper is to quantitatively explore the perception of technological innovations by care staff in social service settings. Carers and caregivers form a key part of client care in social service settings. The findings of the present paper point to the need for active management of technological change in social service settings, particularly through training and adaptation programmes for care staff. The study highlights that perceptions of technological innovation are a key factor in alleviating feelings of job insecurity and recommends further research into the psychological impact of technological change on social service staff. The post was published as part of the FPPV-28-2024 project – Exploration of the social context of self-realization of seniors in the digital environment: research and analysis.

The prevalence of overweight and obesity is increasing globally in both the adult population and in children and adolescents, with potentially serious health consequences. One of the key factors in preventing overweight is adequate food intake. The aim of this study is to evaluate the determinants of eating behaviour in children and adolescents, particularly the aspects of dietary restriction, emotional eating and the effects of external factors. To measure these aspects, the DEBQ-C (Dutch Eating Behaviour Questionnaire for Children) was used, which contains 21 questions evaluated with a five-point scale: ‚never‘, ‚rarely‘, ‚sometimes‘, ‚often‘ and ‚very often‘. Data were analysed by use of descriptive statistics and comparative methods. The research sample consisted of 98 participants aged 11–17 years, including 53 children (23 boys and 30 girls) from the Children's Hospital in Kretin (experimental group with obesity or overweight) and 45 children (20 boys and 25 girls) from the Children's Hospital in Ostrov u Macocha (control group with normal weight). Overweight and obese children showed a prevalence of dietary restriction, higher sensitivity to negative éemotions (sadness, worry, upset) and craving for food in the presence of external stimuli such as eating by others or walking past fast food restaurants. The results suggest that interventions aimed at improving eating habits should include not only promoting healthy eating but also developing emotional regulation and coping with external stimuli.

ÚSKALÍ ZAMĚSTNÁVÁNÍ ODSOUZENÝCH ŽEN VE VĚZNICI SVĚTLÁ NAD SÁZAVOU / CHALLENGES OF EMPLOYING INCARCERATED WOMEN IN THE PRISON SVĚTLÁ NAD SÁZAVOU
Ondřej Kolář, Alena Lochmannová
DOI: 10.11118/978-80-7701-030-6-0066
Employing incarcerated women is a key tool for their rehabilitation and successful reintegration back into society after their release. Working in a prison environment helps to develop work skills, strengthens self-esteem and responsibility, which is also necessary for the prevention of recurrent behaviour. Employment can improve not only the individual lives of convicted women, but also stabilize their family relationships and relationships, which ultimately has a positive effect on society. The article deals with the possibilities of employing them and the various specifics that this process brings.
SÚ SLOVENSKÉ REŠTAURÁCIE OCHOTNÉ ZAPÁJAŤ SA DO KRÁTKYCH POTRAVINOVÝCH REŤAZCOV? / ARE SLOVAK RESTAURANTS WILLING TO JOIN SHORT FOOD SUPPLY CHAINS?
Lucia Laginová, Jana Jarábková
DOI: 10.11118/978-80-7701-030-6-0071
Restaurants, as part of short food supply chains, represent a direct sale of locally produced food. Compared to individual household consumption, they bring several advantages for farmers, especially higher consumption of product volume. The aim of the paper is to test, on the basis of a hypothetical decision of restaurants, their preferences for involvement in short food chains, the organizational model and form of distribution of local food, the type of distance and the price of selected types of commodities. A total of 158 restaurants are included in the survey, of which 44% are involved in SFSC. The results of the survey will help reveal in more detail the decision-making processes of restaurants when choosing an organizational model of SFSC and formulate measures to increase their willingness to participate.
CUKROVARNICKÁ KRAJINA ČESKÝCH ZEMÍ NA PŘÍKLADU PODBRDSKA / SUGAR INDUSTRY LANDSCAPE OF CZECHIA IN CASE STUDY OF PODBRDSKO REGION
Libor Lněnička
DOI: 10.11118/978-80-7701-030-6-0082
Europe and the Czech lands were at the forefront of beet sugar production for almost 200 years. The introduction of sugar beet cultivation meant fundamental land use changes in the river floodplains and in their immediate flat surroundings here. During the 19th and 20th centuries, the production of sugar from sugar beet was one of the most important branches of Czech industry. From more than 380 sugar factories are in this moment in operation only seven. The current post-industrial period bears traces of the gradual decline of this industry, which is exacerbated by the decay of unused industrial sites converted into brownfields. The paper tries to present the historical-geographical aspects of the sugar-making tradition with its impact on the cultural landscape of the Podbrdy region to a broad lay and professional public. The territory has enough natural resources for the cultivation of sugar beet, however, the change in the use of the landscape resulted in a complete suppression of the sugar-making tradition. The transformation of the immediate surroundings of the landscape is documented at 4 original sugar factories in Beroun, Zdice, Osov and Sviňaře.
PÉČE O ZDRAVÍ VE VÝKONU TRESTU ODNĚTÍ SVOBODY / HEALTHCARE IN IMPRISONMENT
Alena Lochmannová, Ondřej Kolář
DOI: 10.11118/978-80-7701-030-6-0089
Providing healthcare in prison facilities represents a complex challenge with significant implications not only for inmates but also for the broader society, including regional development and social inclusion. Healthcare in prisons is ensured by the medical centres and hospitals of the Czech Prison Service; however, when specific needs exceed the capacity of these facilities, care is provided by external healthcare providers. Insufficient access to preventive and curative services within the prison system can negatively impact recidivism rates and pose a risk to public health and safety. Quality healthcare in prisons supports not only the health of inmates but also their successful reintegration into society upon release, which can significantly reduce costs associated with social and healthcare services. Cooperation between the prison system and regional institutions is essential in fostering inclusion and stability within the regions.
RUSKÝ VLIV NA KONFLIKTY NA ZÁPADNÍM BALKÁNĚ A VE STŘEDOVÝCHODNÍ EVROPĚ / RUSSIAN IMPACT ON CONFLICTS IN WESTERN BALKAN AND IN EAST CENTRAL EUROPE
Miroslav Mareš
DOI: 10.11118/978-80-7701-030-6-0095
The paper deals with Russia's impact on conflicts in Western Balkans and East-Central Europe from a comparative perspective. The author presents an analytical framework for comparing Russian interference and conceptualizes regional conflict. Selected dimensions (including historical determinants and competition with interests of other powers) and forms of activities in both regions are then analyzed (including specifics of certain countries). Comparison of both regions helps to understand the comprehensive character of Russian geopolitical area-focused influential operations.
EUROPEANIZATION OF REGIONAL POLICY IN SLOVAKIA: THE POLITICAL PARTIES' APPROACH / EUROPEIZÁCIA REGIONÁLNEJ POLITIKY NA SLOVENSKU: PRÍSTUP POLITICKÝCH STRÁN
Jaroslav Mihálik
DOI: 10.11118/978-80-7701-030-6-0102
In this article we aim to put into context the Europeanization of regional policy in Slovakia with respect to the attitudes of the selected political parties towards regional policy-making in Slovakia as well at the level of the European Union. The effect of coercion and Europeanisation mechanisms in the form of EU norms and structures on the regional policies in Slovakia is examined, particularly after the EU accession in 2004. Our data source consist of the approved election manifestos of seven selected Slovak political parties contesting in the general elections of 2023. Using the data from the manifestos, the article examines the electoral strategies and contentions regarding regional policy at domestic as well as European level. The analysis focuses on the party programs regarding regional policies, including their visions and problems related to accomplishing these policies, and comparing and contrasting their tendencies and positions. Thus, the author adds to already existing knowledge that deals with the Europeanization of regional policy with focus to political party activities in regional development in Slovakia.
WOMAN-VOTER! NO ONE WILL GIVE YOU AS MUCH AS A POLITICIAN PROMISES… THE RIGHT TO ABORTION AS A DEMAND IN THE 2023 PARLIAMENTARY ELECTION IN POLAND / ŽENO-VOLIČKO! NIKDO VÁM NEDÁ TOLIK, KOLIK SLIBUJE POLITIK... PRÁVO NA POTRAT JAKO POŽADAVEK PARLAMENTNÍCH VOLEB V POLSKU V ROCE 2023
Marta Michalczuk-Wlizło
DOI: 10.11118/978-80-7701-030-6-0110
The topic of abortion and women's reproductive rights significantly influenced the 2023 parliamentary elections in Poland. With a record voter turnout of 74.38%, women and young voters were pivotal, driven by dissatisfaction with restrictive abortion laws and promises of change from opposition parties. This paper examines the socio-political context surrounding abortion legislation, the impact of the Constitutional Tribunal's 2020 ruling, and the election campaigns' focus on women's rights. Despite electoral promises, the coalition agreement omitted specific measures to liberalize abortion law, reflecting ongoing ideological divisions. The findings highlight the interplay between reproductive rights and political mobilization in Poland's evolving democratic landscape.
PROTECTION OF CULTURAL HERITAGE: HISTORICAL BORDER BETWEEN MORAVIA AND BOHEMIA / OCHRANA KULTURNÍHO DĚDICTVÍ: HISTORICKÁ HRANICE MEZI MORAVOU A ČECHAMI
Jiří Nesiba
DOI: 10.11118/978-80-7701-030-6-0118
The article focuses on aspects of regional collective memory represented by the remains of boundary stones between the historical Moravian Margraviate and the Kingdom of Bohemia. The boundary stones generally follow the watershed between the North Sea and the Black Sea, so the course of the border has been stable for centuries. As a result, there are still about 1,200 original boundary stones in the Czech Republic, along a length of 420 kilometres. Some of them qualify for protection as national cultural monuments. This article examines the issue of boundary stones, which can also be understood as a manifestation of deeper archetypes of regional identity. This field can be explored as a philosophy of geography. The author shows the functions that boundary stones still fulfil in the landscape and in society. They have created a collective regional memory. In the analytical part of the article, the author shows what concrete steps need to be taken in order to have the most important border stones declared a national cultural monument of the Czech Republic and to help keep alive the still existing historical collective memory of the differences between Moravia and Bohemia.
GENERATIVNÍ UMĚLÁ INTELIGENCE (AI) JAKO ZRCADLO GENDEROVÝCH BIASŮ / GENERATIVE ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE (AI) AS A MIRROR OF GENDER BIASES
Martin Richter
DOI: 10.11118/978-80-7701-030-6-0126
This article focuses on the issue of gender biases in generative artificial intelligence (AI) models, which can influence decision-making processes and the resulting societal dynamics. Through an analysis of responses from widely used language models (GPT-4o mini, GPT-4o, Llama 3.1, Claude 3.5 Sonnet, Google Gemini, and Mistral), this study investigates how these systems reproduce, amplify, or mitigate gender stereotypes in their generated outputs. By combining experimental design with content analysis, the model responses are classified as stereotypical, anti-stereotypical, or neutral. In this context, the results reveal significant differences between individual models. While some models, such as GPT-4o mini and Llama 3.1, systematically reproduce gender biases, others, like Claude 3.5 Sonnet and GPT-4o, exhibit a more inclusive approach. The study also highlights the significant social and economic implications of these biases, particularly in areas such as workforce recruitment and career counseling, where AI-generated biases can further exacerbate gender inequalities.

VOLEBNÍ ÚSPĚCH KOALICE STAČILO! V ROCE 2024 / ELECTORAL SUCCESS OF THE STAČILO! COALITION IN 2024
Michal Ševčík
DOI: 10.11118/978-80-7701-030-6-0153
This paper examines the electoral success of the coalition „STAČILO!“ (Enough!), which emerged from discussions about forming an illiberal left in the Czech Republic. It provides a normative text focusing on the coalition's election program, key themes, and the roles of the coalition partners, namely the Communist Party of Bohemia and Moravia (KSČM), the Czech National Social Party (ČSNS), and the United Democrats - Association of Independents (SD-SN). The paper also evaluates the coalition's performance in the 2024 European Parliament and regional elections, where it secured mandates. Additionally, it critically assesses the coalition's anti-systemic character in relation to the current liberal democratic framework, primarily focusing on its programmatic principles and proposals for alternative governance.

The development programmes for these countries are more or less identical, but the approaches to accepting this cooperation may differ from country to country. The article will focus on the evaluation and comparison of two similar development projects implemented by the authors in 2023 at the regional university USAR in Balti, Moldova and in 2024 at the regional Ukrainian university POLISI in Zhytomyr.
ŠPECIFIKUM APLIKOVANÝCH NÁSTROJOV SAMOSPRÁVNYCH KRAJOV PRI RIEŠENÍ KORONAKRÍZY NA SLOVENSKU A V ČESKEJ REPUBLIKE / SPECIFICS OF THE TOOLS APPLIED BY SELF- GOVERNING REGIONS IN ADDRESSING THE COVID-19 CRISIS IN SLOVAKIA AND THE CZECH REPUBLIC
Martin Švikruha, Dalibor Mikuš
DOI: 10.11118/978-80-7701-030-6-0165
In this article, we focus on evaluating the roles of self-governing regions in addressing the COVID-19 crisis, drawing on the theoretical concept of multi-level governance. The primary objective is to identify the tools utilized by self-governing regions in managing the COVID-19 crisis and to assess whether they merely implemented decisions made by state authorities or undertook their own measures within their delegated competences. The research subject comprises self-governing regions in Slovakia and the Czech Republic, with the achievement of the objective based on defined criteria. First, we analyze measures taken during the initial phase of the COVID-19 crisis, limited to the first 30 days following the confirmation of the first infected individuals. Second, we identify specific tools employed by self-governing regions within the established crisis management bodies in terms of their real capacity to influence decisions of a national character. Third, we evaluate the roles of selfgoverning regions in the vaccination process, using quantitative indicators as a basis.

PROBABLE CAUSES OF THE INCREASE IN HIV AND AIDS CASES IN THE CZECH AND SLOVAK REPUBLIC BETWEEN 2003 AND 2022 / PRAVDĚPODOBNÉ PŘÍČINY NÁRŮSTU PŘÍPADŮ HIV A AIDS V ČESKÉ A SLOVENSKÉ REPUBLICE MEZI LETY 2003 A 2022
Igor Danin Lobo Soares dos Santos, Beatriz Moraes Rodrigues de Oliveira, Michal Uhrin, Kristina Somerlíková, Miroslav Horák
DOI: 10.11118/978-80-7701-030-6-0189
This paper aims to respond to why there has been an increase in HIV and AIDS cases in the Czech and Slovak Republics between 2003 and 2022. For this purpose, official statistics from the respective national health organizations were analyzed. It was searched for differences in the occurrence of HIV and AIDS in both countries using a t-test. This way, no statistically significant differences were identified. However, it was found that there is a statistical significance in the evolution of HIV in men and women in both countries. Among the probable causes of the increase in HIV and AIDS cases are the migration accelerated after the entry of both countries to the European Union, the beginning of the Russo-Ukrainian conflict, the lack of prevention among homosexual and bisexual pairs, and the injecting drug use.
